In August of 2023, CEO Linda Yaccarino initially discussed the implementation of video calls on the platform, and subsequently, in October, the feature was officially launched for iOS users.

This strategic move indicates a significant effort by X to enter into direct competition with well-established leaders such as Zoom, Google Meet, and FaceTime.

The platform’s decision to ditch phone numbers for calls and offer cross-platform compatibility across iOS, Android, and PC could be a game-changer.

Notably, all users have the capability to receive calls, but only those with a paid subscription can initiate a call. This is just one among many exclusive features limited to paid users on platform X.
